4:30pm: uc world fest: explore javsa. every year ethnic programs and services at the university of cincinnati sponsors a week full of culutural celebration known as world fest. this year the japanense american student society (jass) and the vietnamese student association (vsa) are collaborating! tangeman university center. free. >>

5pm: the 2016 bockfest float. welp, it’s that wonderful time of year again where we dry clean the monk robe’s and get ready to celebrate the spring. we have a very, very large float this year which means it’s time to bring the merriment. this year we share the stage with local dance group pones, inc, the clifton market, and a fabulous musical group to proudly present a float daring cincinnatians to imagine all the wonderful places they can go, if they simply let their imaginations run wild! playcincy™ presents boctor seuss’ whodeyville. so dress up as your most colorful thing 1 or thing 2 Tie a keg to your back or come as a shoe you never quite know when the bock will take effect so grab a freind, grab another, and let’s raise some heck! arnold’s bar and grill. free. >>

6pm: opening reception for ohio & synesthetica & carsten meier & richard gilles. manifest gallery presents four new exhibits! check out the brand-new works at manifest beginning on march 4th! we’re bringing you art from home in our latest regional showcase of ohio artists, pieces that will cross sensory wires in synesthetica, and two solo exhibits of contemporary photography! manifest gallery. free. >>

6pm: walk on woodburn. visitcincinnati’s instant art district when woodburn avenue stays up for our latest walk on woodburn! woodburn. free. >>

6pm: bockfest parade. starting at Arnold’s – cincinnati’s oldest saloon – the bockfest parade is traditionally lead by a goat pulling a keg and the reigning sausage queen along with the official parade marshal. it travels up sycamore street to 12th street to main street to bockfest hall and ends with the blessing of the bock beer. this officially marks the beginning of a weekend of festive celebration that might end in blaming a goat on your horizontal position. arnold’s bar and grill. free, but pre-registration is required. >>

6pm: prohibition resistance: the dopplebock tour. the doppelbock tour is a shorter 1 hour tour through the kauffman brewery lagering cellars. you’ll learn how lager beer drove the development of the city and see where it was made, before returning to bockfest hall to continue the festivities with a complimentary beer. bockfest hall. $15. >>

7pm: surfaces panel talk. pique gallery is pleased to present an interdisciplinary investigation into contemporary art’s continued engagement with “surface.” this panel discussion will examine a diverse group of artists’ individual perceptions of surface and the critical role it plays in their own work. featuring pique’s artists nico gardner and chase melendez as well as chicago visiting artists kelly lloyd and antoinette suiter. pique. free. >>

8pm: okwui okpokwasili: bronx gothic. drawing inspiration from victorian-era novels and west african griot storytelling, okwui okpokwasili’s bronx gothic reveals a dark and powerful tale of sexual self-discovery, the (brown) body in transformation – and the humor, the love, the strangeness, and even the terror that accompany it. at the intersection of theater, dance, and visual art installation, bronx gothic gives palatable force to the charged relationship between two girls on the verge of adolescence in 1980s outer-borough new york city. their lives are revealed with unflinching honesty as clandestine, sex-saturated notes are passed between them. okpokwasili’s unforgettable, intensely physical performance pushes against extremes and reverberates with a potency that threatens to break the body in this partially-true chronicle of one woman’s past. cac. $15. >>
