Cincinnati has lots of talented local bands and one of those bands are the one and only Beloved Youth. They are an alternative, party rock band, that consists of four awesome dudes, Sean Mac (lead vocals / guitar), Nate Nunemaker (bass), Sam Iles (guitar) and Nolan Milar (drums). Their songs are about being young, having fun and sex, drugs and rock n’ roll. Well, maybe not the last part, but these dudes sure know how to have a good time.
They have released 3 EPs together, a new single coming out this year and they have a youtube channel, where you can see just how goofy, weird, talented and awesome these dudes are. Along with that, they have a few shows coming up, including a set at the Live On Short Vine Fest at Hangerover Easy tonight at 7pm.
Earlier this week, the guys were nice to to let me crash their band practice to ask a them a few questions. Check out the interview below.
First off, tell us a bit about Beloved Youth, when did it start and come about?
Before Beloved Youth, the band was called Twat Shot, which was a duo with Sean and I. We were inspired by The Front Bottoms until we decided to become more serious. Then, Beloved Youth formed in 2012 after we reunited with high school friend Stefan Reid. The band was later joined by old high school friend Nolan Milar and the 4 piece has remained a fixture in the Cincinnati scene ever since.
You recently recruited a new lead guitar player since Stefan moved to Texas, who’s the new guy?
We recruited Sam Iles from Pioneer and Artists & Models back in December 2016. We wanted someone with a similar sound like Stefan and Sam was who we had in mind.
You have 3 EPs currently, what are those and what is the new single you have coming out this spring?
We have released 3 EPs together, “Party Favors (2012), “Big Nothing”(2014) and “Cruel” (2016). Later this Spring, we are set to release our new single “Teeth”.
You are performing at the Live On Short Vine Fest on April 14th, do you have any other shows coming up?
We are performing at the Mockbee, May 14th with Far From Fiction, Waveshapes and Bubbleteakitty. Then a show at Yesterday’s on May 26th.
If you could open for any band, living or dead, who would it be?
Sean – Prince and The Pixies
Sam – Dead Prince and Red Hot Chili Peppers
Nate – Band of Horses and Modest Mouse
Nolan – New found Glory… who else would it be?
