11am: cincinnati symphony orchestra’s symphonic fantastique. the cincinnati symphony orchestra opens its 2015-2016 season with a full weekend of music, which will feature berlioz’s “symphonic fantastique” and esteemed pianist yefim bronfman. the sunday performance is part of the new series, “stories in concert” and will only feature the berlioz piece. music hall. $12. >>

6pm: frank herrmann: monoprints and other works. the mono-prints in this exhibition, created this spring and summer, consist of images created with stencils, laser cut wood and canvas and direct painting on plates. layering and multiple runs through the press were used to build images that are abstract and convey the artist’s exploration of form and space that are usually, but not always, reminiscent of his explorations in painting. the exhibition will also include paintings and other new works on paper which will inform the prints. clay street press. free. >>

6pm: fresh paint, swarm and prophetic words opening. the manifest gallery opens three new exhibits. fresh paint showcases the winning 27 contemporary paintings and watercolor works. swarm presents the 3-d wire drawing of joomi chung, resembling a dark cloud of insects swarming overhead, and prophetic works displays the recent paintings of ivan fortushniak. manifest creative research gallery. free. >>

8pm: mark mothersbaugh: myopia. opening party. mark’s love of art started early in his childhood, just after it was discovered that he was extremely nearsighted and legally blind.
his first correctional glasses offered mark a new view of the world, inspiring his obsession with imagery and illustrations. his first works, which he began creating in the late 60’s and into the 70’s, consisted of many different mediums, including rubber stamp designs, ink illustrations, screen printing, decals, and mail art. he participated in local showings, and received recognition for his work in his home town of akron, ohio. contemporary arts center. free. >>
